it's just the truth, our german gaming industry is very weak compared to the gaming market in germany. only the simulation game sector (economy simulation and so on) is good here everything else is for little kids or to learn something. crytek is the only developer other people on this planet even know lol. and for anno, i believe most people outside germany have no clue what this is ;)

we are good in building machines, cars, for having great orchestras or whatever but we are really not known on this planet for our great games.

This shows that even many German gamers don't know about the secret strength of modern German game development: point&click adventures.

Daedalic Entertainment (The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav, The Whispered World, Deponia, A New Beginning, Edna & Harvey, Harvey's New Eyes) => my favorite German developer
Animation Arts (Secret Files: Tunguska, Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis, Lost Horizon, upcoming Columbus and Secret Files 3)
KingArt Games (The Book of Unwritten Tales and successor)
Cranberry Productions (Black Mirror II, Black Mirror III)
Deck13 (Ankh series, Jack Keane, Black Sails, Haunted, upcoming Jack Keane 2)
Realmforge Studios (Ceville)

Point&click adventures are not very popular anymore but imo at the moment Germany is the country for classic adventure game development (and many of their games are strongly influenced by LucasArts' 80s/90s point&click games).

Some other countries have one or two good companies for this genre as well (e.g. Spain with Runaway creators Pendulo Studios and the Czech Republic with the guys from Amanita Design who created the wonderful Machinarium), but the only country that can compete with Germany in this genre today is the one where the adventure genre was invented in the 70s: USA (mainly thanks to the world's most prolific and successful current point&click development company: Telltale Games).

By the way:
The real reason why most German developers were and are not very successful with their games is probably that the country never had a big and strong publishing company like e.g. France (defunct Infogrames up to the 90s, Ubisoft since the 90s). There's a reason two of the most successful German franchises ever (economic sims Anno & The Settlers) are today owned by Ubisoft.

lol i know about that but sry i forgot to talk about every of one thousand different kind of games^^  sure we have some kind of games which are very good and blabla but for one of the biggest gaming market our games are not really this big in other countries. anno for example is huge in germany it sells like starcraft or so but what's with the worldwide success?

we make a lot of browser games as well i didn't talk about that in the post you replied.

i don't say german developers are bad ("we are not known for our great games" doesn't mean we have none) germans are good in everything when they do it (haha lol joking) but pc sector is the only huge sector and even there most games are only known here in germany. some are better than ubisoft games or so but they don't sell like games from ubisoft.

and i wouldn't like to open a studio in germany knowing how most people and almost every politician think about gaming if it wouldnt be a studio only for games age 12 or below. it doesn't have to be fun to know they hate you for what you do in the country you work. that's one of the reasons we won't see many developers like crytek making good ego-shooters or so.
