Do you think with the world in the economic toilet there's no apetite for expensive nexgen consoles?

Being that I've seen people and news stories discussing buying $600 iPads for 6 year olds, I think there are enough people with excessive money (or a poor ability to set priorities) to fully support the release of a next generation system.
