I'm talking about Wii-U! The size of the (unfinalized) box tells you nothing about what they can put in it.
GC was smaller than PS2 and xbox and was more powerful than the former and close to the latter.
It's all about design.

i think you are forgetting that a factor in the size of the ps2 and xbox was the harddrive slot they both had

They were huge factors, especially considering that both had bays for full-sized 3.5" HDDs. Lots of empty space in the original PS2. And as for the orginal Xbox; like they said, comfortably housed a family of four.
The Wii U doesn't have a bay for a small for even a 2.5" HDD by constrast. A 3.5" HDD would take up about half the overall internal volume of the Wii.
