Only after displaying a certain level of quality, and having some tenure could such accounts be given access to the advanced forums. Then if that person shows a penchant for stupidity you merely revoke their advanced forum access. I have seen similar strategies work on verbose forums. The bad influence cannot get into the main stream threads, and the moderators can focus their moderation on those forums. Without having to sift through every thread. We could limit these offenders to those forums. Reserve the hot topics which are usually the best to the mainstream forums, and thus the front page access is filled with intelligent conversation. Having the flame break forums defeats the new account creator. They simply cannot create the chaos they once did. Legitimate new posters can move in after a couple weeks. Which also shows dedication not flash in the pan theatrics. Finally spammers, trolls, and anarchists are permanently quarantined unless they clean up their acts and hold themselves to a higher standard. While the spam is very annoying the real problem is the reputation it gives the site. We see how many people routinely check the numbers every week, but one of the reason they are not joining is what they see when they take the time to check out a thread. Do you eat a restaurant where the waiters routinely take a dump on the floor in front of you. There is a difference between civil discussion and inane banter. |
That actually sounds like a great, allbeit, difficult solution.
