| bigjon said: My excitement is getting warmed up for the WiiU. I am not a graphics whore by any means, but at the same time I do enjoy beautiful graphics. Imagine this, as beautiful as Zelda:SS was, what if it was a machine as powerful as the PS3? Now think about the WiiU, all indicators are that it will be 2x as powerful or so. What nintendo needs to do is dropped the whole controller concept, unless they see it as part of the console and less of a controller. The WiiU needs WiiMote 2.0 (Motion+ was 1.5). The Wiimote works great for more games. If they want to use the tablet make sure it comes with the console, then make it optional whether on no a game needs to be played on it. Games like Zelda, Metriod, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, etc would be wonderful on it. All of those are single player so each system just having one would not be a problem. Games like Mario Kart, Smash, FPS (online or split screen, single player campaign would be fun on tablet), etc would not work as well on the tablet, they need to have a standard controller that also comes with the system, the system needs to be able to support 4, and they need to cost about 29.99 or less. Either way the WiiU as huge potential, but I just worry about Nintendo going all out on the tablet, I just think a WiiMote 2.0 that has improved motion controls and possible more compatible with traditional games (not many people played Smash with Wiimote and Nunchuck, same with MKWii). Nintendo finally showed people with SS that motion controls can enhance a core gaming experiance, now with the tablet I just dont see how they can expand on it. |
Having the U-pad with WiiU is something that shouldn’t even be asked as it is obvious that it will come with it. It’s the main controller but what I think is that they should include a Wiimote as well so that new gamers to the Wii family don’t have to buy a separate Wiimote just to play a game that might be included in the package like a Wii Sports game.
In the trailer they showed the kid playing with a WiiMote and then changes to the U-pad so that his dad could use the TV. They showed playing golf using both of them. So if Nintendo is going to include a game/demo (very likely) with WiiU that uses both controls then there should be a wiimote packed in.
Aonuma did talk about how to use both controllers to play Zelda. It will be played like SS and use the U-pad as a pouch with all the items and that it might as well be used as an item like the lens of truth which was hinted at in the text as well.
Will look for it and post here as soon as I find it.
For me I do not want to go back to buttons when it comes to Zelda
Edit:
“Skyward Sword is a title where we took aim at all the conventions of the Zelda series. While that may have been difficult, I think that confronting those challenges resulted in something that has a great deal of value. When it comes to Wii U, we’ll obviously want to add new elements that take advantage of the capabilities of the platform. I think using that as a lens through which we once again challenge the conventions of Zelda is more important than just making another Zelda game. With that in mind, please expect big things from the Zelda series to come!”

"GR: Looking forward, can you say anything about the Wii U Zelda project?
EA: What can I say…? It's a difficult question (laughs). We're just getting started on it even as we speak, so I'm just worried that if I let something slip that's off that mark…
The feedback that I've been getting from a lot of people on Skyward Sword is that they like the game very much, so of course I think probably the most important thing that we're focusing on right now is how do we take those elements that people seem to really love about Skyward Sword, and really bring that and connect that to what we do with Zelda on the Wii U while still continuing to evolve the game.
GR: Is there any particular feature of the Wii U hardware that you're excited to work with?
EA: Obviously, it's the new controller that's got the screen built into it, and in particular we're looking at how we can combine that new controller with something like motion control, and perhaps use the new controller in such a way that it becomes a new item that you're able to use to make the game feel fresh and new."
