As an example - You can't track tge Halo Reach DD sales without tracking the GT5Prologue DD sales. With the next generation (I assume) having a massive DD focus, I hope VGC can find some way of tracking DD sales. @enrageorange The Source for American sales is NPD. Im assuming NPD is also used to determine the bundled sales. |
I agree totally. I am merely pointing out that they will have to start tracking them at some point and in some way, otherwise it will become only half the story with the other half all guesswork.

I'm really curious to see how this pans out. I'm not sure how the site would handle DD sales and if - as is probably already the case for PC games - the percentage of DD to retail slips to far towards digital then SW numbers will start to become somewhat meaningless apart from tracking a single channel only.
I guess HW will mainly sell through retail for ages yet so that should be fine, but I think SW is going to get increasingly hard for the site to track.

It already is that way imo. There are lots of games that have big digital sales from both PS3 and 360. Titles such as GT5P, Wake and now halo reach are stand out examples. We will be talking millions of uncounted sales for those games by the end. The bundled ones are ludicrous... I know I keep saying it.. but if you can count it then you should count it. Two wrongs dont make a right. Feels like a bit of appeasement to me.

Yeah, I agree. I seem to remember EA saying Mass Effect 2 also sold well digitally on PSN and of course lot's of full games are now available on XBLA/PSN and people must be buying them or the publishers wouldn't even bother. I guess all SW - unless initial launch numbers for retail centric titles like MW3 - should be considered undertracked if we know their is a digitial version available.
I know a lot of people think digital sales are probably low but I'm not so sure. The convienience factor of just paying/downloading for those with decent connections shouldn't be underestimated IMHO. It's very well documented how often purchasers will pay more for convienience.
