Yes, it does. Apparently I didn't know the "trick" to fighting the final boss, and that could have made it (much, much, much) easier, but I won't be able to test that out until I get to him in Hero mode.

I have some advice, don't over-prepare.... before I went to the final boss I went back to skyloft and got two Guardian+ potions (stop you taking damage for 3 mins) and 3 heart++ potions.... I got through the first bit of the fight losing about 10 hearts, but for the second stage (when he brings lightning to his sword) I decided to down a guardian potion, and thus beat him wihout losing any more hearts. I found it a little dissapointing because of that (the last Ghirahim fight though was awesome)

Well of course it was disappointing, one should never use a Guardian+ potion unless one absolutely cannot beat a boss. I never even bought a regular one, as a matter of pride. The Guardian+ is an instant win button. You should go back and fight him again, he is the best fight in the game by far.

Well I know that now, I'd barely even used heart potions through the rest of the game (probably used basic potions once or twice, and a couple of fairies) that was actually only the second time I upgraded a potion. (just remembered I did use an upgraded shield restore potion early on in the game too)
