See, now I've looked a few videos of it and they behave differently, when I played they would throw a boulder and then pull out a sword, it was impossible to climb up, they would only get another boulder if I returned to the platform below.  I tried the slingshot and they would just dizzy for a couple seconds, not enough to run up to them and it didn't make them drop it.

If you hit them while the boulder is directly over their head, they drop it when they get stunned and it lands on their head and they die. I found that by dumb luck (was trying for a stun and run).
