I have to say that Orcs Must Die is surprisingly awesome, the best tower defence I have played, it combines 3rd person shooting and trap laying much better than Sanctum did it's only missing co-op.
In the end it's just a lot of fun to kill Orcs.

Binding of Isaac is also great a "twin-stick shooter" with randomised dungeons with a wide variety of powerups and enemies. Combining arcade shooting with a roguelike dungeon was genius.

Dungeons of Dredmor is a great beginners rogue-like combining the randomised dungeons and turn based combat of a rogue-like with a modern UI is a great experience. Permadeath is the only way to play.
