Yes, of course. You can do everything with Money. (though i think Gamestop didnt buy the exclusivity, but instead just buy's off A LOOOOOT of Copy's from NOA at their own risk.)
Even though Gamestop is shit talked lately for the stuff they do (okay, tricking people into buying new games with that 'White Sticker' thing IS evil.), they might have been the deciding factor to release this game in NA. while it was only reasonable to do so, you guy's sure remember Terranigma, Mother, and pretty much everything Nintendo got a Boner of by teasing their Core Fans with not releasing certain titles. (Which is why WiiU will fail to impress Core gamers. If J-Core sells bad, they simply stop publishing it.)
Edit: However, it would be far more likely if GS just has an exclusive Edition of XB.
