Yes you read right! I'm celebrating the end of the reward program. Not because I'm bitter I never won anything. I knew from the start I wouldn't and I had no illusions about it. Not because I think giving prizes to the community is a bad idea, the idea sounded pretty good on paper but in practice it didn't turn out so well.

One of the intended effect was to have people more eager to participate in building the game database and this was successfull but most of what we got was iPhone games that nobody had cared to add before (and that nobody will probably search for either).

In the forums, the effects of this program were not as anticipated, we thought we would get great gaming threads with heated discussion on controversial subjects, we got some of those but we also got spam threads, insanely long elimination threads, flamebait threads about evolution and religion, people posting in every thread they saw even when they had nothing to say. All of this drowning the good conversation under a sea of pointlessness.

I don't mean this thread to be a doom and gloom thread  and I won't whine about the good old days because I still love this site's community. This is also not a dig at the people responsible for gamrRewards, I realize there was a lot of work that went into this and that it was designed with the best intentions. I see this as a turning point for VGChartz where we look back and realize what went wrong and correct ourselves.

So let's us celebrate the end of gamrRewards and the many upcoming changes this site is going to see soon!
