I think the first of a lesson learnt was they revealed that 3rd parties got to know Wii U sooner than ever. By that, not only does Nintendo offer 3rd parties time to make games but also shows a gesture of really being open.
I too think that Bit.Trip creators have dev kits, which is rather surprising and points too Nintendo wanting more devs to bring games sooner to the market and in more quantity! What the Wii needed!
With 3DS Nintendo learnt the importance of a good online system on games (MK7) and on the get go of the console. Actually, i think Nintendo will surprise us when they reveal their online plans.
In terms of killer games, it`s true that 3DS will only receive it`s first with MK7. That pleases core and casual gamers. And i think it will make the console reach a new plateau.
Still, i don`t know if that will be enough to call it a winner - comparing it to DS or not. What i feel it needs is mainly an overall redesign to make it less DS and more 3DS and improve the 3D tech. That, plus games that really appeal to the casual and core crowd, are the most important things for next year.
