Of course they could. Anything is possible. Both Sony and Nintendo have also been the leaders in NA. The thing is that MS really can't afford to lose it if they want to be successful. NA is definitely their strongest market and they need to do everything in their power to keep it that way.
I don't agree with the brand loyalty thing at all. Americans do not buy things because they are American. If that were the case, the streets out here wouldn't be filled with Japanese cars. The truth is that people are buying the 360 in America the most because they currently like it the best.
