Thanks, I'm grateful for the opportunity to help the site again.
I think, as a community, we need to make several important steps to bring back the quality forum Vgchartz used to have. At the same time, we should be preparing the site for the next generation and making it as clean and efficient as possible (ioi is promising a return to basics and I'm hopeful for the future of the site).
I urge the community to take the following steps:
- Try to urge quality older members (those from 2007/2008) to come back to the site. If you're still in touch over AIM, Facebook, or some other form of communication, try to contact them and bring them back to the site. It won't be easy, but great discussions and intelligent people are the building blocks of a strong community. At the same time, we should be trying to bring brilliant new users and contributors to the site. I think a basic approval process (that is, new accounts are approved by the staff instead of instantly created) would help to weed out a lot of bad apples, but I realize that not everyone has the time to sort out new members.
- Report diligently. I see plenty of crappy posts and spam on game pages and in just about every thread. If people don't report bad posts, the job of the moderators becomes a lot more difficult. I'll be doing my part in deleting bad posts and banning when appropriate. Use good judgment on what is bad posting and poor behavior.
- Make quality threads and quality posts. Good discussion is born out of thoughtful and insightful discourse. This site used to have one of the best communities on the internet. Let's bring that back.
- Finally, be mature, kind, and courteous. This is pretty much a given, but still, many users don't seem to have these values on hand. Complaining about the numbers every time you disagree with them and trolling at every opportunity is not helping the site to improve.
Thank you.
