PS3 fanboys care and they always have. To them, taking 2nd place will allow them some form of weight being lifted off their shoulders. Priding themselves on having the opinion supported by the majority for 2 generations, the PS3 overtaking the 360 will validate their core beliefs. On the plus side they won't be so anal about the 360 once their sensitivity dies down :)
Also, the difference is that Sony has a decent presence in NA where as MS doesn't have one in Japan.
Your point would be correct if PS3 sold as bad in NA as 360 did in Japan.

i'ts not like i said ps3 fanboys didn't care :) and i am in fact correct about microsoft caring about ps3 outselling 360 :)
there are only 2 sides to it, PS3 fanboys and 360 fanboys
360 fanboys of course are the 1's who act like they dont care "anymore" because it's about to happen
and ps3 fanboys are the 1's who act like they "still" do care because it's about to happen
now i was just pointing out that microsoft cares seeing that some people act like "nobody" cares anymore
and 360's American sales alone usually sell on par or a bit more than PS3's American AND Japan sales combined so it's not like 360 is at an utter disadvantage because of Japan or anything :)
and it's not like it's PS3's fault that 360 sold bad in Japan
so if anything the only thing "embarrassing" is the fact that 360 couldn't get a good foothold in japan despite launching before ps3 AND having all those JRPG's on it's console but whatever though..

Its not embarassing at all when you consider the branding of Xbox that MS established with the origional Xbox. Branding means a hell of a lot more then content could ever do. MS simply gave Japan a bad taste last gen where as Sony is more established.
If anything, I could say its embarrassing Sony is still last place despite RROD, more exclusives, being 1st place fore 2 gens, having Japan in their pocket, having free online :)

and sadly enough it took Nintendo 2 gens to recapture the crown and still couldn't outsell the second and third place consoles combined like the PS2 did which not only managed to obliterate its comp, but continued to sale after the 6th gen was over and managed out sale the 7th gen consoles for a yr. or 2 after it started.
6th gen continues to shit on 7th gen.
