Not really sure why it happened but I'm assuming basically one store started the tradition and others followed suit in the hopes of staying competitive. Its gotten to the point where every store pretty much has no choice but to drop their prices ridiculously or they will get 0 customers.

Ahh cool, I wish something like that would happen in the UK.
I believe prices drop just before Christmas, nothing on the scale of this though.
