NPD results for October should be in later this week, and according to Wedbush Securities' NPD preview, Xbox 360 likely came out on top yet again. Wedbush expects hardware sales of 180,000 Wii units (down 22% year-over-year), 350,000 Xbox 360 units (up 8% y-o-y), 265,000 PS3 units (up 6% y-o-y), 140,000 DS units (down 59% y-o-y), and 250,000 3DS units.
On the software front, sales should see double-digit growth for the first time since April, climbing 14% to $690 million, led by the terrific performances of EA's Battlefield 3 and Warner Bros' Batman: Arkham City.
"In our view, the game lineup in October and November is one of the strongest in history. In addition to the aforementioned games, we expect solid results for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Uncharted 3, Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Saint’s Row the Third, Elder Scrolls Skyrim, Need for Speed The Run, Forza 4, and several other titles this holiday. In addition to a double-digit increase for October, we think that November and December sales will likely be up as well," noted analyst Michael Pachter.
