Your comparing MS 30% BC to Sony's lowest possible 70%. I feel they would not drop it till the early 80's which is not bad. We will not know until the list is out next month.
I heard the compatability was more around 98%. Even as such it is rumored that the software emulation may help to render the PS2 games in HD.

If these are true then it will be pretty cool. The first thing that pops into my mind is the question of the hardware scaler. But it is probably a ruse to lower manufacturing prices.
