@ OP I think that what the survey that you mention doesn't take into account is that when you reach 65, you're more likely to believe in God because you are coming closer to the end of your life, and don't want to think that you're just going to be food for the soil after you die. Younger people think about this stuff less, and therefore are less likely to believe in God.
