Honestly these features were necessary and I can't wait to use them. Though I find it odd that Nintendo is including the update in SuperMario3DLand largely because their currently aren't any online games compatible with this. I would have expected them to release it with MarioKart7.
However the anti-piracy updates are smart. Nintendo knows they need to keep their security up to date. These updates should come with every new game from Nintendo or a third party. A 3DS owner should not be able to get around the update. Like when PSP owners just didn't buy the newer models or they didn't install the updates which were largely voluntary.
Nintendo should keep updating their anti-kart software with every release. The second they give hackers much of a break they will have pirated software flooding the market. Something that would be very bad for 3DS considering it is having such poor software sales already!
