Another thing is that MarioKart is a very sacred brand to Nintendo because it can sell/assist in selling multiple things with the same brand name: the d-pad(DS, MK is better suited for analog, but they had no choice but to use it at that time, so it helped), motion controls (wii wheel), online, analog stick?, 3d? Probably why they chose it before a Super Mario Bros game to release this year for the 3ds. The analog, 3d,online+, streetpass, spotpass are the new highlights on the 3ds after all. And MarioKart is better suited to help sell all. I don't think the SMB brand is suited for any.
