Also, I should point out that the reviewer also gave Red Dead an 8, so clearly he wasn't really looking for a more open Uncharted experience, it isn't really clear what he was looking for

But the reviewer did like the game he gave it an 8 FFS

By giving it an 8, he is saying that it is worse than Child of Eden, and as good as Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 (both reviewed by him), he is also saying that he thinks it is 10% worse than everyone else does

No he is not saying the game is worse, he is saying he didn't enjoy it as much, and didn't enjoy it as much that the majority of other reviewers... The score is in no way an exact metric of quality, it is a metric of how the reviewer personally felt the game is. And he is not alone plus other critics have been harsher than he was even if they gave it the same score or even a higher one, others have pointed out technical problems, glitches and criticised the story and said that it is not as good a game as 2 but some of them some to have upped the score to keep fans happy so that gets ignored.
