Those genuine issues apparently piss him off in U3 but don't seem to do so with every other linear game except FFXIII.

What linear cinamatic game did he rate higher other than UC2?

Besides I didn't get the feeling that it was linearity it's self that was the issue. "the game commits the cardinal sin of insinuating you have full control of your character, but in fact tugging you towards trigger points - making sure you're in the right spot to tumble over the bonnet of that braking car, for example. "

"Your freedom of choice risks ruining the shot. Indeed, throughout the game, if you jump into an area you are not supposed to visit, Drake will crumple on the floor dead, Naughty Dog switching role from movie director to vindictive god. That is not your predestined path: Game Over. "

"Frustratingly, you must always move at the script's pace. Enter a room with two giant cogs that need turning and Drake won't call over a comrade to help him until the correct sequence of cut-scenes has played out."

"Oftentimes the game feels like a simple series of puzzles in which the puzzle is simply to locate the next trigger point for the drama. "

A game can be linear without resorting to such tactics with good level design, giving you the option to deviate from the path and then just killing you does seem annoying to me, and i can understand how a game that otherwise having impecable design could make these issues stick out. I guess the reviewer expected UC3 to improve on some of the "flaws" of it's predecessor but what was delivered was simply the same, same flaws, same advantages leaving the reviewer with a logical 8 Great score not a 9-10 revolutionary next step in the genre like it's predecessor. I never really got the impression that anything "pissed him off" anyway, just that there were things that could be annoying to some and could be improved upon.
