The original press release is the one posted on nintendoeverything. Right at the bottom it reads "Source: Nintendo PR". 3DS sales for September were 260k.

And yes, VGC has been way off before.

Thats the thing, that source is not an actual link to anything. They usually have clickable links. 

So is this really the original website for all the other  outlets, well it was for neogaf I think.
