Part 3

In a CrazzyMan post, he wanted us to only discussing PS3 to PS2 sales, and told us to go make another thread to discuss other sales comparisons, so I decided I'd go ahead and put together a small (ie: LARGE) comparison of the 3 current-gen systems available on the market today.

The next few parts I will compare a little more than a year for each console, in each region, aligned from launch. This 4th part will compare 7th generation sales to 6th generation sales for each console, in Japan, aligned from launch. Weekly sales, total sales, and brief comparisons will be given. Links will be given as well. For size purposes, no graphs will actually be shown.

Direct Weekly Sales Comparisons

In Japan: With little presence of the 360 in Japan, and for simplification of these charts and comparisons, I will not include the 360 in this region

PS2, PS3, Wii Total Sales from Launch (59 weeks)

PS2, PS3, Wii Weekly Sales from Launch (59 weeks)

GameCube, PS3 Total Sales from Launch (59 weeks)

GameCube, PS3 Weekly Sales from Launch (59 weeks)

Total Sales Comparison:

PS2 – 4.27 million
PS3 – 1.64 million
Wii – 4.94 million
GameCube – 1.67 million

Conclusions:

- Wii has been very closely tracking PS2 sales in Japan up until this point

- The PS2 had some very bad weeks it’s first year; at week 40, it only sold 3,000 units

- The PS3 has been selling less than the GameCube at this point in it’s life, but it’s quickly overtaking it

- Most bigger bumps are due to holidays, but some of the smaller ones are games

- The PS2 had a very bad first Christmas (weeks 41 on would be around December)

- Lots of interesting data here, but that's why I posted it, so we could discuss it
