Many people have given you different reasons why it wouldn't work, but I'll give you a different one and that I think it's difficult to argue against. As the article says, PS products sell globally. Many, if not most of the markets where PSVita and PS4 will sell are just not ready for a DD only console, they would lose millions of customers in developing countries alone. Giving both DD and physical copies is just the best option right now. |
That can easily be bypassed. As we're seeing in Europe they are introducing the PSP E1000. Which is esstentially a GameBoy Color era platform as it has no connectivity options and just a mono speaker. Sony could introduce a much more gutted Vita for developing countries and support that through a full scale retail release schedule of downloadable games. While the countries that are developed can have these options
1) Have what we are already getting (the wifi and 3G models that still support physical media)
2) All 3 models (the gutted physical/Wifi and the 2 that are currently announced)
3) An all digital 4G Vita for devloped(ing) markets that is download only (remember it wasn't the damn DL only feature of the PSP Go that made it fail, there were multiple other factors that were in play that everyone [including Sony] that hoped Go would fix the problems, but the botched it
4) 4G Vita for developed markets and the wifi only Vita for developing (wifi only would still support the physical media format)
I REPEAT! IT WAS NOT THE DOWNLOAD ONLY STYLE OF PSP GO THAT KILLED THE PLATFORM! Sony has been stupid in the past and the PSP Go was one of those stupid moments.
