Are you implying that a company lays people off entirely at random and doesn't take factors you're in control of into consideration?

Are you suggesting that an individual can not recognize when the company or industry they're working in is in decline and make rational decisions to change careers before they're laid off?

 

It is one thing to be empathetic or sympathetic to individuals because they made decisions that worked out poorly for them, it is another thing altogether to claim that they had no control over their outcomes ...

 I am by no means saying it makes no difference, a persons actions, but I hate how people like Herman Cain point to themselves, or the single token ghetto millionaire, rags to riches story and use it to keep a big huge hand holding down everyone else and point to the exception and say "see nothing wrong with this picture because THAT GUY made it!"

This would only be true if there was a huge hand holding everyone else down.

There isn't...

Though if you think there is, that's sure going to hurt your chances for success.

The more successful people there are, the better the economy is, and the better things are for other rich people.  So no particular group is going to try and "hold you down" unless your directly infringing on their marketshare... and even then, chances are your already going to be pretty successful by the time they get to you.  Wealth isn't a zero sum game.

It's tough to be successful, but those are obstacles... not a hand holding you down from anyone particularly trying to make you fail.  There isn't a giant consious conspiracy.
