I don't think Gears has brought anything new to the table. But it has polished and popularised great mechanics and game modes that already existed though.
I don't see it influencing other games that much though, most 3rd person shooters have their own style and haven't really copied any aspects from Gears of War. Developers only seem to copy eachother when it comes to First Person Shooters.
