Sales are so unusual this week.

-No Halo Reach, Kinect Adventures, or even Black Ops (360) in the top 40, despite the spike in console sales this week.
-Black Ops selling better on PS3 then 360.
- Wii sales getting weaker and weaker, and overall weak sales on all consoles (They were all selling around 200k last year at this time).
-360 not outselling the PS3 in EMEAA despite the Gears spike.

So odd, I expect PS3 to take #2 next week.

The way I see it Gears sucked up all the air in the room on 360 and caused drops in the titles you mention due to sharing same demographics.  Meanwhile on PS3 there was nothing to dent the usual baseline demand for Black Ops.  EMEAA isn't that much of a surprise.  Most of the Gears/HW bump was UK and while the UK market for games is big it isn't so big it can overturn the rest of EMEAA PS3 sales.

PS3 probably will be back in #2 next week as you note.  Wii does look very weak compared to 360/PS3 this week.

As for Kinect the baseline has been low for that for a while so it only takes a few bigger titles launching to squeeze it out.

Gears of war 3 and Kinect Adventures share the same demograph? What you say makes sense, but overall I expected CoD and Halo to be higher on the list then they are now. Maybe people are getting real hyped for MW3 and Battlefield 3.

To be fair PS3 has Resistance 3, and COD is a much bigger game on 360. Then again Black Ops on PS3 barely crossed the top 40.

As for EMEAA, I thought Gears would still appeal to regions in Europe outside UK. It's a pretty big game, and it's not like french gamers don't appreciate a good shooter.

Wii is dying, I don't know if it will get a million seller week this year. I don't think any home console will.

I meant Reach etc for demographic that's why I referred to Kinect seperately.  My view is that a fair bit of the spike wasn't new owners but people trading their standard 360 for a Gears custom console (probably half my friends in UK did that for example with their current consoles).  Therefore those people already owned Reach, etc.  In addition the huge shift to buying Gears cannabilized demand for Reach, etc.

Kinect I think is totally seperate I meant that due to it's fairly low, steady sales at the moment if there are enough new releases it gets pushed down the charts.  I doubt demand for Kinect dropped due to Gears simply that Gears, Dark Souls on PS3, etc. all pushed it down the rankings due to their higher debut numbers.

As for Gears it just doesn't have the same appeal outside US/UK and a few other territories as it does within them.  Just one of those things.  Could be all manner of reasons.  For example I have some German and French friends who don't like it simply because of the heavy xenophobic vibe it gives off as Marcus and the gang crow "too ugly to live" as they kill another Locust.  They disliked Killzone 2 for the same reasons.  Like I said who knows but the Gears vibe certainly doesn't have worldwide appeal despite the fact it's gameplay is undeniably polished and strong.

Pretty ironic that, in percentage terms, it caused the biggest spike in Japan though!

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
