I've been seeing a lot of topics where people have been comparing the two, so I thought maybe we could keep it all in one thread. I figured this part of the forum would be ideal, although there might be some sales discussions between the two. - Unanswered holiday period in 2011 in US and EMEAA regions
- Recent price cut puts it at an edge
- StreetPass allows for interactivity with other systems easily (even while in sleep mode)

3DS CONs
- Identity crisis (i.e. some people don't view it as much of an upgrade over DS)
- The less powerful of the two
- Region locked
- Started off with barely any games (will be remedied this holiday season)
- 3D effect has been said to make some people feel ill

Vita PROs
- Clearly the more powerful of the two
- Cross platform ability with PS3 (remote play, playing a title on both PS3/Vita with same save)
- Access to large library of games on PSN
- Not region locked
- Strong launch line-up
- Built-in second analog stick (some people consider it a plus over 3DS)
- Good amount of apps for the system (Social networking, for example)
- Near system allows interaction with other nearby players

Vita CONs
- No clear system selling games (like Nintendo's first party/Monster Hunter)
- 3G plan might be expensive (it seems so in Japan, but no announcements for outside of Japan yet)
- Memory cards are considered expensive
- No 2011 holiday release in US and EMEAA
- Debuting at a higher price ($250/300 for Vita vs. $170 for 3DS)
- No UMD option (people with a PSP and a lot of UMD games are left in the dust until Sony decides to announce a program to exchange UMD to digital)

Some things I didn't list include the battery life (about the same for both systems, so no advantage to either), the external battery for the Vita (don't think much is known about it, except that it will extend the battery life, but price and some other stuff is unknown, so can't place it).

 

EDIT (9/20/11) - Added StreetPass (3DS) and Near (Vita) to the PROs categories of both systems.

I disagree with alot of what you put in pros and cons for starters with 3DS

1."Some big third party franchises (Monster Hunter, for example)" PSV is going to have that franchise as well as most other 3DS franchises I don't think there are any exclusive 3rd party franchises for the 3DS. 

2. "Glasses-free 3D" is this really a pro? All the advantages of 3D get taken away with it being on such a small screen that is likely to move around a bit, also you can't use gyroscope and 3D at the same time.

Now for psv

1. Didn't mention enhanced BC with digital psp games (psp games will beable to use second analogue)

2. Didn't mention massive third party support (153 devs making games for it as well as Sony)

3. Didn't mention 3G option in pros

4.  "No clear system selling games (like Nintendo's first party/Monster Hunter)" Um Uncharted and does anyone believe there isn't going to be a Monster hunter on psv, really?... This should not be here. 

5. "Debuting at a higher price" It's going to be the same price 3ds was when it debued. 

6. " No UMD option" I would call that a pro, UMDs are bulky and the drives break easy, it's a really bad medium and would just clutter the system, I'd leave this out.

It seems like you have an agenda listing 3DS cons and Vita pros.

But you have a point, those things should be added / removed from the list, especially those Vita pros.
