The absense of evidence is not the evidence of absense. Basically I think you would first have to prove that Sega usually mentions old as crap games that creep their way up to a million in order to say that them not mentioning it means it didn't happen.
They did mention that they were very happy with the resurgence of sales after the price decreased, which seems like it would fit your "Maybe not as recently, but definitely at the time when it was selling much more than it was now." statement.
But really all we're going to do is argue about whether or not the statements put out by Sega on this game could be interpretted one way or another. Which is a silly argument of semantics.
edit: and yes while Jarrod was certainly the leader of that side of the argument I distinctly remember you being second in command so I don't think Machina's statement is that far off.
