So I've been reading tons of threads recently and noticing in the last few weeks to months that users are tagging games for everything. Any excuse they get to tag a game and the users do so. I'm not sure about whether VGChartz has begun to reward points for tagging games but its becoming very annoying.

I don't post for points, in fact I really couldn't care less about the points other then the self satisfaction that I rank pretty high on the most active users list. So I am not aware of whether VGChartz has begun to award points for tagging games.

But tagging is getting out of control. I go in the politics section and read a thread about the economy and a game is tagged. I go in the off topic discussion read a thread on murder and a game is tagged. A thread on health care and Dr.Mario is tagged.

Is anybody else getting annoyed with all these tags? I like the idea of using tags to identify products so if you have a thread about MarioKart Wii then tagging the game is advantageous and helpful. But what good does a tag do on almost every thread? If I'm reading about a medical break through what does a Dr.Mario tag do to improve the thread and experience? Nothing it only takes away from the experience making the thread more annoying and difficult to read.

Maybe there should be a moderation rule introduced for Spam tagging. Tagging games for no apparent reason, because honestly its just as annoying as the bumping issue is and that is a moderatable rule. Or as annoying as giant sigs etc...etc...

Anyone else getting annoyed by the tag spamming? Senseless tagging in threads that have nothing to do with the tagged game?
