Rutea, I'm totally the opposite in terms of knowing gamers. I pretty much grew up with my girl friends and they tend to be at least a little geeky and many have family members who are avid gamers so they are more open to gaming with me. I've played Onimusha, Little Big Planet, Quake 2, Warcraft 2, Starcraft, WoW, Uncharted 2, and other games with my girl friends. And the guys I know, well, I work at a game developer, so I think you can guess the answer to that LOL.
d21lewis, I think you've contradicted yourself lol. You said, "I don't think there needs to be special marketing of games towards women." and then "Companies need to come up with a way to show females that the game they want to sell is going to be fun for a female audience." But yeah, I definitely think publishers should do more to entice women to play their core games both in placement and content of advertising. However, (and this ties in somewhat to my previous paragraph) there's an issue with receptiveness of the audience. How willing is the average woman to pick up a core game and try it out for herself? Despite any additional emphasis on story and character like a drama movie, I think there's some stigma attached to playing video games.
Currently playing: Gran Turismo 5
