Never understood why Sony hasn't released many different colors here in the US. While I know it wouldn't give them gazillions of new sales, it would definitely give them a nice little boost for awhile. And it doesn't seem like it would take much to do it, either. Personally, I want a black one.

Yeah I can't imagine it would be that hard to make more PS3's in different colors to sell in the US.

What I don't understand is why doesn't the US market get their own special edition PS3s for when their big games come out? I could picture an awesome PS3 with a design for Uncharted, Resistance/Ratchet & Clank, MAG/Socom, or Infamous.

Yea, I don't get it either.  Those custom consoles would help push tens of thousands of extra consoles and with very little effort from Sony at all.  Reminds me of this article: http://ps3maven.com/sony-ps3-mods/

Can you imagine how many PS3s Sony would sell if they had put out a limited edition run of that MGS mod?  Or something similar for the games you listed?

Yeah, they always want to push new games out and get them to sell as much as possible, but those games don't generally push hardware as much as they would want. I do believe the limited edition systems in Japan push a good number of new PS3s out the door, so it's not like it doesn't help. Something like the Lightning FFXIII one would've sold over here, as would the FFXIII-2 one, most likely. They could even do one for something like Uncharted 3, or for games that they know will sell plenty (GTAIV, FFXIII, Uncharted series, Gran Turismo, etc.).

Also, while that MGS mod looks cool, it'd probably be a bit too much for like an official release.

Well, they wouldn't need the raised lettering, just a smooth custom paint job.  I don't know if the lights would be taking it too far, might be easy enough to include.  Either way, I think custom consoles (with custom controllers) for the 360's big game launches are definitely the reason why they push so many systems on launch week, even though it may be the 3rd or 4th in that series on the console.  So Sony, give America some loving,  too.
