To me it looks like some people can't (still) read from between the lines. To me it looks like Matts idea was (considering he was using NPD data, which is impartial considering the market and even that was old data) that the publishers are stupid and someone should show them how stupid they are. So he was speaking as a gamer (which he is), not financial advisor or analysist (which he isn't).

The consern itself about what 3rd parties think, shows how absurd the view, what Matt told us about, is. Well, if the 3rd parties don't change their view, it's going to affect their profits, or should i say, it's going to affect even more.

Capcom has really good comparision between different types of games: RE:UC, which is quality hardcore title, dark and colourless and is rated 18+ and Zack&Wiki, which is quality hardcore title, bright and colourful, and is rated 7+. Although, Z&W is new IP and RE is established one with strong sales for a decade now. But you still can compare which one sells better.

@Legend: Thank you for sharing us your wisdom. So, if EA would have made M&S without the two propably most popular VG characters of all time, would be similar to Sega (or Nintendo) making NHL, F1, Madden or FIFA without NHL, F1, Madden or FIFA, and then release them as 3rd party title. I don't think the games would sell similar numbers that they are.

And who said Nintendo will soon "rent" their characters? But they already have. Soul Calibur had Link and a number of EA:s sports titles have had Mario in them.
