That's mainly because it's never really had much competition. Boardwalk Empire will surely give it a run for it's money this Sunday at the Emmys. Boardwalk Empire won 7 Emmys already at the Creative Arts Emmys (where they give out the technical awards) that took place last Saturday, which is an absolute record for a TV series. Mad Men only won 1.

Boardwalk Empire won for Art Direction, Casting, Cinematography, Editing, Makeup, Sound Editing and Visual Effects.
