Nintendo is on a downward slide, but smartphones have nothing to do with it. I wish people would stop making that mistake. Smartphones and smartphone games are in a whole different market. It's like comparing PCs to home consoles. It is pointless.
Nintendo's problem now is that they have stopped making games for the mass market, and have gone back to making these niche titles in attempt to satisfy the "hardcore" gamer. But the tragedy is in satisfying the hardcore gamer, they could end up doing themselves in.
