Central America is a part of the North American continent.

North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia/Oceania, Antarctica. That's the full list of continents, NA and SA can be combined to America.

But meh, I guess this is just another one of these instances where the things that get taught in American schools differ in some way.

It's still part of "The Americas".
