I love how this writer obviously knows shit about the games industry.

Console manufacturer's have ups and downs, Sony was in a far worse position after PS3 launched and look at them today still standing strong and if PS4 performs well they could return to their glory days of PS2. Nintendo themselves were on a steady decline since the NES yet with Wii and DS suddenly they not only regained their former glory but did even better then they had initially. Microsoft lost billions of dollars on the X-Box and now with the 360 they are really profitable and according to this article secure.

Fact is even if WiiU and 3DS bomb their is nothing to prevent Nintendo from making a huge comeback in a generation or two. Nintendo isn't a company that's going to fold under pressure they are going to keep fighting till they regain their glory, then repeat the cycle.

The articles conclusion about Nintendo either going down or going third party is highly uneducated. The writer obviously has no knowledge of the industry. Nintendo has over 13-billion in reserves they have plenty of time to get their shit together and release another big hit. If they license third party they will loose all of their hardware profit which would only seal the coffin.

If everything goes like it should Nintendo will sell enough 3DS's and WiiU's to break even if not profit a bit. Then a generation or two later Nintendo will make a glorious comeback and the cycle will repeat.

As for MS and Sony being safe, lol again showing this writers misguided and lack of education with regards to the games industry. Their is no such thing as safe in the industry. Sega thought they were safe and guess what they went down. Atari thought they were safe and they went down. Sony looked like they would lead again with PS3 like they did PSOne and PS2 yet they lost billions.

The industry goes up and down. That's just how it works and none of the companies are going to remain at the top forever! Nintendo may be loosing a little money but they are still very much in the game and there is no reason to doubt that they could make a huge comeback!
