I agree that America will see the lowest drop, though the difference between regions won't be as huge as with GC/N64 (not saying you argue that).
The pattern is clear with home consoles, but it doesn't mean 3DS will meet the same fate, considering it's a handheld, even if you think of it as a portable GC/N64.
After all, NES and SNES weren't so successful in Europe either, but their portable 'counterparts' (GB and GBA) did well. That may be the case with 3DS.
