first off you say you won't go off topic..but doing just that

second of course not..heck GT can't be even run on the wii..heck at least use a similar game/genre/sales potential

third if you for a second think DQX wouldn't have done well on ps3 you are being delusional..the system is doing really well on RPG sales front and has much better momentum currently than the wii in Japan

fourth, as I have said so many times already, I doubt any of you can come up with a proper decent argument against why DQX should have gone multiplat with the ps3..ps3 can more than handle the games visuals, it's already being developed for wiiu so dev time is not the concern either and ps3 has a really good rpg fanbase and selling really well currently. this only benefits ninty and they obviously money hatted the project hence the current result. am I angry about it? hell no...the only RPG's I've enjoyed this gen are Valkyria chronicles/Demon Souls/PSP FF games. the best approach for better sales would have been to go multi with ps3 or handhelds or both.

you know what, better than going off topic here why don't you make a thread about this? and actually put some decent arguments as why my opinion is wrong in your view and we can really have a good discussion. you can even quote this answer in it to kick things off

Don't make a thread, chances are it'll just turn into the carnival of stupid. DQ X would sell well on pretty much any platform, it's DQ. DQ also isn't known for multiplat anyway...yes it's coming to the WIi U as well, but rather as a port, it's more like an extension to the Wii getting it since you can even use the same profile on both consoles. Clearly there's a deal between NIntendo and SE with the series right now. But that's just the way it is.

which is pretty much the reality of it and is what I said. the only thing is tho doesn't matter if it a port or not since most multiplats are ported over from the lead platform afaik, wii/wiiu IS going multiplatform by definition. it's like ps3/vita games...connected but two platforms.

Isn't Nintendo publishing this game or something?

I believe the deal to be similar to the Dragon Quest deal. Nintendo promised to try to make the series a success in the West.

A charge usually brought against Nintendo consoles is that only their own titles sell. So, publishing series like DQ or Monster Hunter with the same support Nintendo gives their own titles makes them appear as Nintendo properties. That alone increases the chances of success significantly.

At least that is what I think Nintendo promised. Sony would have given them money for exclusivity as well, but their chances of turning MonHun and DQ into global brands might be lower than Nintendo's in the developers' eyes.

A quote from a GAF poster that I agree with. You say this only benefits Nintendo. If that were true the devs wouldn't make it exclusive would they. It benefits SE too.

Edit: Also, if you're such a big fan of DQ ( As I assumed from reading your posts), how about playing on the console it's on. What does it matter if it's on a Nintendo or Sony console? Favorite Franchises > brand loyalty.

I don't get it..most of you guys seem to read what you THINK is there yet you end up saying exactly the same thing I'm saying...this is getting silly. OFCOURSE there must be some sort of a deal going on between the two parties...if not it's a rather stupid business move

btw I strongly disagree on the MH/DQ global appeal crap..sony has done it before..give them the chance and they will do it again :) Sony has maintained great sales for RPG's in and out of Japan. and honestly man..how the hell can you argue a multiplat release wouldn't have benefited SE and sales? I mean really? none of you have yet to come up with one decent argument against that. it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what's going on here.they made it exclusive cuz Ninty 'sponsored' them. nothing more nothing less and I'm getting tired of repeating myself without being understood and argued back with fluff. I mean hell MHTri didn't sell even a million outside of Japan now did it? so much for the global appeal creation. devs can't be THAT stupid surely. DQ never had a big appeal on home consoles outside of Japan, it's just the nature of the game. But the highest selling home console DQ belongs to a sony platform also. I would be honestly surprised if the next MonHun on home consoles didn't end up on ps3...would be ideal to go multiplat with WiiU

and no, if you read my posts you will see I have clearly stated I don't give a rats ass about this series or most RPG's in general so this doesn't affect me the slightest. I'm just pointing out the obvious, it would have done much better going multi wii/ps3 and wiiu sales wise, only logical reason it didn't was cuz of a dealing between the companies. logic > jumping to conclusions, I bought a ds for games like Layton..would have bought a wii too if I had few games in it that really interested me..but it doesn't..I have access to xboxes very conveniently hence why I played Halo reach and others and had no problem. Don't misunderstand the kind of gamer I am..thanks to new layton games etc I will without fail buy a 3ds sooner or later as well

Also, it's important to consider (if I understand correctly you do care about the multi-plat argument) the difference between sales success and critical success, and the balance of the two. One could argue that if a title is sold on two platforms it will have more sales potential given the greater userbase. However, for the health of the series would you say that FFXIII was aided by going multi-plat to the 360 or hurt? Yes it sold twice as much as it would have otherwise, but people are now less enamoured with the series. Despite its supposed flaws (I never played FFs past FFX-2), fans would have defended the title given its exclusive status. Health-wise, for the IP, FFXIII would've been better sheltered as an exclusive.

Apart from that I'm happy either way, but I still do believe exclusivity has its place, purpose and pros, as well as its obvious cons.

people hated ff13 not cuz it was multiplat (other than the initial rage on the net) they hated it cuz of the departure and linear nature of the game. we had so many threads on the subject. fans defending a title cuz its exclusive doesn't affect the quality or the overall reception either. not saying exclusive games don't have it's pros cuz I totally agree. but considering how wii and ps3 are in japan and ww currently, multiplat would have benefited this game the most.

I can appreciate that. Tough call but I believe the pros and cons are in balance and the benefits could weight one way or the other. I do agree that the nature of PS3 and Wii in japan is quite similar, so a multiplat for this Japan-appealing title would be a good fit. Though swaying from the tradition of the series it could have been a good time for expansion/change. Also, the Wii and PS3 already have their prestige when it comes to RPGs so that argument might not apply totally to this case. You may be right.

As for FFXIII as I said I was aware of the flaws I was just pointing out that the bias of a community can affect its critical success, despite a lower quality game. For this we disagree but that's okay.

keep in mind tho...DQX already has some fans going into rage mode with its MMO-ish reveal, monthly payments and the constant internet connection talk tho I doubt most of that crappy features will come to the west cuz it will likely be an instant bomba here if it did. and also some of the fans who were angry were angry because of how the 360 version might have affected the ps3 version...they 'speculated' that with things like bluray vs dvd and development time taken for a 360 version etc took away from the game...but in this case, it's already being developed for wiiu so it's already getting delayed cuz of it (andriasang reported today that the game has been in development for over 6 years now) so a ps3 port would have hurt it, and porting from wii to ps3 won't harm the original versions quality in anyway, not in visuals, scales, content or anything.

but yeah..its done lol no use in going back and forth on this matter
