This is how the story goes: The main character is introduced as an average boy/girl, but over time it becomes clear that he/she is actually the lost son/daughter of some kingdom.
If you thought Mario saving Peach is unoriginal, then brace yourself for the Dragon Quest experience.

huh... I see. So what is it about Dragon Quest that gives it such a highly regarded reputation?
Is it flawless execution of essentially tried and true, basic gameplay elements? 'cause that would be fine too.

Being the first JRPG with the first big world while having an great soundtrack and created by the art of the then very very popular Akira Toriyama;..
After the first one people kept buying them, possible because of nostalgia and knowing what to expect....bit like FF...People may hate them so much and being unhappy that it goes to a handheld or console they don't like...They will buy it.

well that just about kills my enthusiasm for this game. Based on what we know so far it just sounds like another Monster Hunter type game, and I already own that. Hopefully my assessment is wrong and there is more to it than just constant grinding.
Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!
