This OP is really a criticism of modern Capitalism as opposed to the video game industry. The video game industry runs this way because of capitalism (i have nothing good or bad to say about that).
Since everything in business is affected by capitalism in this way, you will find that your complaints will be found in every other industry looking to make a profit. Therefore the focus of your criticism, while made with good intent, is a little off.
