So the best option would be to back up everything to an external hard drive, then restore to the new PS3? Or else I would have to go via my 3rd PS3?

you could do that but it would be better to use the data transfer utility just below the backup one.

Data transfer to what? I want to keep using the same HDD, just on a different PS3

oh yeah, then making a backup would be the easiest but i think you will lose the protected stuff that way.

There is a third option..

Move the HDD from the slim into my spare fat PS3, then transfer stuff from my current PS3 into that, and then transfer into the slim with the HDD from my current PS3 in that finally?

Or I could just stick with the current PS3 that I have

yeah that would probably be your best option, or like the last poster said you could put the copy protected one onto the online storage, and transfer the rest via backup but that would depend on how big the data you have for dragon age is. the online storage isn't that big and you would have to have plus for that.

the best option is probably what you said.

If it was me I would save the fat for ps2 games and use the slim but that is me.

Yeah, I have to pay for plus, why I don't really want to do

As for saving the fat for PS2 games, my launch PS3 is being used as a bd player elsewhere in the house, as I fear overuse won't be too good for it, the one I am currently using is a 2nd generation fat PS3, so no BC anyway
