"If the 3DS struggled so mightily at selling with a $250 price point, what makes people think Vita will suddenly avoid that problem with an SKU that is the same price and an SKU that is even more expensive?"
That assumes price was the sole problem with customers buying the 3DS. It's too soon to see if that was the case.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
