Personally I doubt it, seems very odd.

But how would that even work? There aren't any slots that would accept data input like that, unless it clipped into the SD Slot somehow

It would be incredibly impractical, and every game that came out for 3DS after that would still have to support the current scheme

I agree, seems highly impractical. Would do far more damage to the 3DS and its reputation than just carrying on with one analogue stick.
