Most of those are sports games that are pretty much a monopoly AKA no competition. Madden has been going on since the mid-90's and most of their other franchises have been around for over a decade or so. So they won't be brought to the dirt anytime soon.

This. The FPS genre is the biggest now and if Activision do not keep the level of their product at the same level (and in fact IMPROVE on it) then some other better more innovative game will take the sales. MW3 so far hasnt been impressive this year and BF3 will will with the critics but MW3 will still probably win the MW3 vs BF3 battle. However BF3 will pull some gamers away from MW3 and if EA keep raising the bar then eventually we may see a new top FPS.
