Looking on Amazon, a GBA SP goes for about $30 used. If you get that you can play all GBA and older games, with a folding system, and a backlight. Best handheld Nintendo ever made IMO. Get that for now, and get the 3DS later when they extend the battery life.

Good plan, but I already have a GBA.

I could get an original DS (£30/$50) or a DS lite (£40/$65) second hand though, and buy a 3DS further down the line.

I found a second hand DS lite for £30 on a boot fair at the weekend, but I don't usually buy stuff from there, incase it's broken.
