Joe Danger’s back, and this time he’s making a movie. You’ll remember the PSN smash hit, right? Well, Hello Games have been hard at work on something new for the last year, and they’re finally ready to tell everyone about it. Well, kinda.

“The working title is ‘Joe Danger: The Movie’,” says the studio’s Sean Murray. “It’s kind of a sequel to Joe Danger, but it’s also something entirely new. I guess I would say that the entire gameplay experience of Joe Danger on PSN, would be just one short scene in this ‘film’.”

“If you liked Joe Danger, then I think it’s going to rock your world,” he continued. “Even if you didn’t like it though, this is different enough that we might just win you over. That’s the idea, but like I say who knows, no one but us has seen it yet.”

The idea came about when they were helping the team’s resident film nut move house. They found VHS films of classic 80′s movies – Robocop, Short Circuit, etc – and ended up just watching them all, and coming up with game ideas from them. The new game starts with Joe Danger being discovered by a Hollywood Director – you can see where this is going.

“It’s really just an excuse for us to take every film you’ve ever loved as a kid,” says Murray, “cut them together into some crazy montage, and basically that’s the script for our game.”

Hello Games aren’t talking platforms yet, but want the “most people possible to play our games”. Their previous title was PS3 only, and was rather impressive. “It’s good, really good,” we said when we reviewed Joe Danger. “Hello Games might only be four strong but their first game has production values and a sense of purpose many retail PS3 games can only dream of.”

“It’s a focused, concentrated game, apparently clear of feature-creep and publisher intervention,” went our review, “and manages to tick all the right boxes – don’t miss this one: seriously, it’s fantastic.”

If you’re going to Gamescom, keep an eye out for this semi-sequel – first screens are expected next week.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
