"Here's a cosmology question for you (in all seriousness): How are the distances between stars measured?"

I think I now that. Through the parallax (dont know if this is even the right term in english. During the earths movement around sun they look how the position of a star changes relatively to more distant stars. If this wont work anymore because the star is to far away you look at the Light Spectrum of the star to determin what kind of star it is so to guess its real brightness. And then depending on how much brightness you actualy see on earth, they calculate how far away it is.

If that doesnt work either we have standard stars (candles) cepheides (?) they change their luminosity periodically and physicists believe how fast they do it corelates with their maximum luminosity. Then we have 1A Supernovas occuring for very distant measurements. To determin how far galaxies and such are away they have the highest possible brightness and are supposedly everywhere the same so you know how far away they are depending on how bright they seem.

I am not entirely sure if I remembered everything correctly. What I know for sure, that its a lot of math and not really an exact science. Our models of stars are far from perfect and a lot of assumptions are not precise enough.
